Last Friday I started shooting for a DC local music website called DC Music Download. Here's an explanation from their about page:
D.C. Music Download is a music magazine website that covers local acts in the Washington, D.C. area, and delivers this news to the computer screens of those who don’t know where to go to satisfy their musical palettes. We don’t merely cover bands, but our jobs are also to promote the ones we feel are the prized jewels of the city and expand their fan bases.
Definitely a sweet gig being that I love music, and put that together with photography! My first gig was The Young Rapids' (left) record release show at The Dunes, with Strange Furs (right) and artist Nicole Bourgea (below right).
The show was primarily for The Young Rapids' release of Day Light Savings, Baltimore's Strange Furs brought some amazing music through various instruments, and what impressed me the most about this show was the live painting by Nicole Bourgea of The Young Rapids as they were performing. The show was also a sneak peak of Bourgea's project AS IS: An Urban Portrait Project. Her paintings are large portraits of strangers going about their day.
The amazing benevolent spin on her project is that upon finishing her portraits, she returns back to the spot she first saw the subject and installs the portrait there with a hand written sign that reads, "If this is you, this painting is yours to take."
